AMMAN - Hollywood actress and UN special envoy refugees,
Angelina Jolie urges world leaders find a resolution to the Syrian conflict.
Angelina's insistence delivered during his visit to Zaatari refugee camp in
Jordan.
Zaatari camp which is situated 80 kilometers north east of
the capital Amman is home to 160 thousand Syrian refugees. Jolie was
accompanied by UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, a tour
through the camp. They met and listened to stories of displaced persons who
fled from Syria.
Jolie visits to coincide with World Refugee Day on June 20.
The day aims to raise awareness about the situation of refugees around the
world. Speaking at a press conference, Jolie tells the difficulties facing
Syrian refugees.
Approximately 1.6 million people out of Syria does not bring
anything except the clothes worn. More than half of that number are children.
Many women and children suffered rape and sexual violence. A whole generation
of children out of school and at least 90 thousand people were killed.
"I pray that all sides in the Syrian conflict to stop
targeting civilians, and allow access to humanitarian aid," he told
Al-Arabiya reported.
"I do," Angelina continued, "urges world
leaders to set aside differences, come together to end the violence, making
successful diplomacy. UN Security Council should fulfill its
responsibility."
According to him, every 14 seconds, there is a refugee from
Syria. At the end of this year, half of the Syrian population or 10 million people
will need food, shelter, and assistance.
